Philadelphia With Children: A Guide to the Delaware Valley Including Lancaster and Hershey--- Product Description
Visiting Philadelphia for the first time? Expecting out-of-town guests? If children are part of the equation, this unique guide is a must. Best of all is the book's organization. It covers in detail such topics as Why Go, How to Get There, What to Expect, What It Costs (there are many listings at no cost), and, of vital interest to shepherds of children with their limited attention spans, How Long Will It Take? Every parent or host to young visitors will treasure this newly updated reference, now in its fourth edition.

Good reference for traveling with children
I purchased this book upon recommendation by a friend. I am from the general area which this book details.I saw some familiar kid favorites (like the Please Touch Museum in Philly, Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster) as well as other places I never would have thought of to visit with children (Morris Arboretum in Delaware County).Delaware & NJ are also included in the book. The book gives addresses, phone numbers, admission rates, wheelchair and stroller accessibility, rainy day outing suggestion, school group programs, membership benefits/discounts, birthday party facilities, and summer day camp programs.Public transportation options are also discussed.
I was a little disappointed that more info on Lancaster County was not included in the book (i.e. Pick your own farms, Christmas Tree cuttings, etc.). Almost everyone knows that Lancaster County is farm central with a plethora of pick your own farms and corn mazes. My other negative critique is that the book was last updated in 2000. Although most of the places listed in the book probably haven't changed much, if at all, it would be helpful to have another printing with more recent information to include all of the new places that have been built since the last printing.
Overall, this is a good start and still a recommended book for travel in the Southeastern PA/NJ/DE area. |
